Daniel Bates, an award-winning writer and editor, is Strategic Relations Manager in the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Technology Management. The office facilitates the commercialization of innovations from University faculty, staff and students. Dan oversees marketing communications, commercialization education for faculty, outreach and other strategic relations efforts there. Dan joined Pitt in 2002, after 18 years in the media as a writer and editor in Pittsburgh and Boston.

Prior to Pitt, Dan served almost eight years as editor of SBN Magazine, whose mission was to motivate, educate and inspire entrepreneurially minded senior executives. Previously, he was a reporter for the Pittsburgh Business Times.
