Steven M. Cherin is a shareholder with the Pittsburgh office of Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky, where he concentrates his practice in business law. Mr. Cherin is chairman of the corporate transactions group. He joined the firm in 2008 in the combination with Gefsky and Lehman, P.C., where he was the firm's managing partner. Mr. Cherin started his legal career with Buchanan Ingersoll, P.C., as a member of its business and tax groups.

Mr. Cherin's broad practice experience includes business structuring and development; private securities offerings; stock options and executive compensation; federal, state and local taxation; professional practices; reorganizations; business sales and acquisitions; and corporate, partnership and limited liability company law. His clients include middle market companies involved in mergers and acquisitions as well as early-stage venture clients needing guidance on formation and fund-raising efforts.

Mr. Cherin holds the highest rating for lawyers by Martindale-Hubbell, a national register for attorneys, recognizing his professional standards and ethics as well as his legal ability.

Community
Mr. Cherin's clients aren't the only ones to benefit from his expertise. He frequently shares his insight and knowledge with the university and entrepreneurial communities. For more than a decade he has served as a board chairman of the Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School Management Game, a computer-based business strategy simulation for M.B.A. students. He also was a coach for the EnterPrize Business Plan Competition, which supports southwestern Pennsylvania's technology entrepreneurs. He serves on the board of his condominium association, as well as Edgewood Country Club.

Professional
Mr. Cherin frequently speaks to a variety of professional organizations. He serves as a speaker and moderator for Duquesne University's Entrepreneur's Growth Conference. He has organized multiple seminars on mergers and acquisitions and has lectured on Pennsylvania business taxes to the National Business Institute and Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Mr. Cherin has led seminars about S corporations for Lorman Education Services. He has also lectured on start-up companies, financing, stock options, and various tax issues.

Mr. Cherin is a graduate of the Cornell School of Law, where he served on the board and was published in the Cornell Law Review. He has also been published in the Forum Reporter, the newsletter of the Enterprise Forum (Pittsburgh Chapter).
